HLYV was founded 17 years ago in Santa fe de Bogota, Colombia by Sister Valeriana Garcia Martin.
HLYV's mission is to improve the lives of children who are sick, hungry, abandoned, malnourished, and uneducated.
HLYV encourages the development of the whole child - physically, emotionally, socially, and academically.
HLYV believes that love, respect for differences, dignity, and equal opportunity are fundamental values in securing human rights for all people.

Hogares Luz Y Vida was founded 17 years ago by Sister Valeriana Garcia Martin with the mission to improve the quality of life for children and adolescents. She vowed to stay and work in Colombia until there were no more sick, hungry, abandoned, malnourished or uneducated children. HLYV is now comprised of a residential orphanage for 140 special needs children, a vocational home for 18 teenagers, a day care center for 300 toddlers, a primary school for 200 children, a second orphanage in Caqueza for 230 children, a farm, an aquatics home, and the Juan Garcia School for 65 additional Jbj children in the poorest region of Bogota. In all, over 900 children are served by the Association of Hogares Luz y Vida.

To this point, educational services are being provided through 6th grade. A goal has been set to provide secondary education for the children of HLYV. The cost for the new secondary school project is $388,000 US. This cost includes demolition of the old building on the site, construction and furnishing of a new building, and salary for a principal/coordinator. To date, more than $258,000 of this has been raised. We are almost there - with your help we can achieve this goal!

Not only are we looking to build the secondary school, but to help provide for the daily needs of the over 900 children serviced by HLYV. There are needs for clothing, shoes, medical supplies, sports equipment, musical instruments, school supplies and much, much more.
