Travel Day: We started the day bright and early, meeting at the Williams'
home in Trumbull, CT at 6am. All went well as we loaded the vans and
started toward JFK airport in NYC. We made good time and arrived just when
we had planned to - around 7:30am. But the challenges began almost
immediately...(read

Concert
at Quisqueya Chapel and The Ravine: We all slept well and began the tricky
adjustment to life in a country where the water that comes out of the faucet is
toxic to your system and the mosquitoes that hover around you at night could
bring debilitating disease. Brushing teeth with bottled water quickly became the
norm, but the showers took a little more getting used to. ...
Day 3 Monday, February 21, 2011
Our first trip to Holy Trinity Music School: We all had a rough
night, trying to sleep while images of the Ravine stubbornly found their way
into our dreams. But we woke up excited about our trip to the music school.
About 10am, we heard a loud roar outside the walls of the guest house...(read

Day 5 Wednesday, February 23, 2011
Early start with two high school concerts ahead of us. We were
pleasantly surprised to find that the students of Bridge High School were fluent
in English! They were incredibly gracious and opened the concert by
performing music on recorders for us! We weren't really prepared for what
happened when we started to sing "New Day."...(read

Beach day! We had all been looking
forward to spending a little time
swimming in the beautiful waters of the
Caribbean. We got an early start, knowing that travel in Haiti is
painfully slow, packed our sunscreen and towels and boarded the bus. After 2
hours we arrived at the luxurious beach and were amazed that such beauty could
be just down the road from such hardship. ...(read

Day 7 Friday, February 25, 2011
We all knew that we
needed another day at Holy Trinity Music School, but a full day was already
planned. So we got up extra early and boarded the bus, making the long
drive across town to the school. And we had a distinct mission on this
day, an undertaking that fit perfectly with our goals for this trip, and that
would make one young Haitian boy very happy. ...(read

Day 8 Saturday,
February
26, 2011
A certain sadness settled on
the group as Saturday dawned. We couldn't believe that we were going home.
It didn't seem possible that in just a few hours, we would be entering a world
that knew next to nothing about what we had seen, and we were all coming to
grips with the reality that we would never be able to articulate the experience
in a way that would do it justice. So we did what we often do when we are
sad,...(read
